Kizzmekia S. Corbett, PhD
Figure
An influential immunologist and a Schutzer Assistant Professor at Harvard’s Radcliffe Institute of Study. Dr. Kizzmekia S. Corbett played a critical role in the development of the mRNA-1273 vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 deployed by Moderna.
Her work at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Vaccine Research Center, was instrumental in the swift response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Corbett, who holds several significant patents and has received numerous awards for her contributions to science, is also dedicated to mentoring and promoting STEM education in underserved communities.

Daniel Hale Williams: Performs one of the first successful open-heart surgeries at Provident hospital in Chicago, which he founded. Pioneering new methods in cardiac surgery.
Alice Ball: Develops an injectable treatment for Hansen's disease (leprosy), revolutionizing the treatment of the disease.
James E. West: Co-invents the electret microphone, now the most commonly used microphone in the world.
Gladys West: Her work on satellite geodesy models is instrumental in the development of the Global Positioning System (GPS).
Mae Jemison: The first African American woman to travel into space, serving as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour and contributing to space medicine research.
